Do you guys figure this will be enough engine to fly the H9 60CC Corsair, or would that be a bit too heavy of a bird to fly properly? I'd love this option versus the FG84

Hi chorner, I think FG-60 & H9 Corsair 60 is a good combination, maybe not powerful but with a good power to weight ratio.

Holla Alex. No, I have not used the pressure fitting - I am very reluctant due to the safety issues this involves.

A pressurised gasoline tank full of vapor in contact with hot exhaust gasses?
Can you imagine igniting the fuel tank in the plane?

I prefer to test it like it is and see. Worse comes to worse, I will find some other way to pressurise the tank (e.g. a second Robart air tank with a regulator).

Yes, it may seem dangerous... but in theory exhaust gases are inert gases. Keleo supply this option maybe because they have been tested.

Alex, it seems more like it definitely would be a good combination. You wouldn't be able to use a 3 blade scale prop like with the FG84, but with a good 22x10 apparently this engine can pull 6,700 rpm? If so that should be almost 1:1 thrust to weight ratio for the plane.... hmmm interesting. The plane should weigh around ~28-29lbs with the FG60 and ~30-31 with the Evolution 7-77 (I use that for reference as I have one already)

It's pretty similar in performance when I run the numbers on the engine I have now (Evolution 7-77) which can turn a 24x10 at ~5,700 rpm on the ground. With a 22x10 up at 6,700 it gives slightly less thrust but a more reasonable top speed.

chorner, 6,700 is an absolute lean condition. I have backed-down on the top-end to a more conservative 6,400. This should give you about 27lbs thrust.

do the math here: http://personal.osi.hu/fuzesisz/strc_eng/

thanks hpergm. It seems I can get a couple more lbs of thrust with the Evo 7-77 swinging a larger prop, but slower speeds. Overall it seems between the two they are fairly evenly matched trading a bit more torque on the 7-77 for more HP and rpm range on the FG60R3. The difference however seems to be that the FG60 weighs less... and onto of that would be less maintenance. Might have to go for the FG60 after all!

Are you planning a build thread?

Hola,

This week I received the Keleo ring for my FG-60R3, I test today with pressure fitting connected to fuel tank and without pressurized tank, there is not significant power difference, is not necessary big changes in needles adjustments with fitting connected or not, there is a little leakage through the threaded part of the fitting pressure that is necessary to seal, running the engine with presure fitting connected not seem dangerous, my FG-60 get 6200 rpm with Xoar wood propeller 22x10.

Hadn't planned to do a build thread but I will post some pictures over in the thread for this plane (H9 60cc Corsair). I'm about 50% completed with the build and setup full operational gear doors, lights and now trying to decide between sticking with the 7-77 rafial or the FG60. A handful of guys are having the FG84 modded and doing a number on their airframees to make it fit but I'm more interested in putting the most powerful 4 stroke radial that will fit without making a mess of the internals

Thanks, It will be interesting to see how it fits.

Finally decided to fit the FG-60R3 in my vintage (1983) Byron Staggerwing G17S build. Discovered they are back ordered on Horizon. Anyone have any idea when to expect next shipment?

Cheers

I wouldn't say that the weight of the engine for the 60cc Corsair install is of any consequence as it's a short nosed WarBird and like all of those, usually need nose weight to balance. I just read one post where a guy put a DA50 in his and had to add 5lbs to the nose....

Even with the FG-84, mine required another 11ozs. of lead in the nose to balance.

Good point Zeeb, you're right on that and I didn't consider the fact that you'd have to add back that weight. Probably leaves the FG60 out of the question. I've since decided to stick with the EVO 7-77 I have anyhow

Just received mine this week and here is a short video of it running on the testbench. Getting a respectable 6700 RPM on an APC 22x10 prop only after about 1 liter running. Gonna order a Biela 19x8 four blade that I will test on this engine as it will be mounted in the new TF razorback P-47.

Final needle settings right now is:

High Speed needle: 1 1/4 turn
Low speed needle: 6 3/4 turn

Wow...exhaust ring sounds fantastic! Is that something you made or is it available in the market?

Cheers

Trust me, it sounds even better in reality, the camera does not carry the sound properly, especially at idle....

The ring is made from parts I ordered here: https://www.krumscheid-metallwaren.d...op.php?lang=EN

It looks like the i.d. of the pipe is larger than what Keleo uses which probably accounts for the deeper exhaust note - sounds great!

Hi all
I have had the motor for a few weeks now and have run about 5Lts of fuel through it now, I have noticed that if you run it too rich on the high needle it will start to cut no 3 cylinder out from running. I don't know if any of you have experienced this while running in your motors. I have a 20x10 3 blade on it which is pulling 5900 revs , and set a bit rich to run at 5600, my main needle setting is around 1/12 turn out and the low end is about a 1/4 turn in from factory and that seems to of got ride of the mid-range flat spot it had when running it on the first 4 tanks of fuel. The only thing that seem of concern would be the top rocker box is a lot dryer from oil than the lower 2 pots when i did the tappet clearance adjustment.. what have you guys found when doing your tappets.

Hi there
I'm planing yo buy a kit from top flite the Zero Giant scale
http://www.top-flite.com/airplanes/topa0712.html

In the manual they recommend a DLE55 or an OS Gt60 2stroke.
I check this saito model and I love it, can someone help me if this motor will go fine on this model weith and power?
I love the realistic sound on my plane I don't want to race.
some friend tell me another option with a saito fg-84r3 but I think it's too heavy.
I need help please.
thanks .

Yes, it will work beautifully. The Zero/FG-60 combo is also my next plane - the FG-60 is now residing in a TF FW190, also quite suitable.
Note: The FG-84 does not fit the Zero, but does fit the FW190.
